SURVEY RESULTS

A group of more than 100 college and university music executives were surveyed recently and asked to identify the most essential skills and qualities for administrative success.  There was a long list of choices, and many wrote in great responses that weren't on the original list.

Seven skills and qualities were identified as essential for administrative success:

The TALE of the THREE ENVELOPES

Once upon a time, a newly appointed arts administrator went to the old, retiring administrator for advice on how to succeed in the job.

"In the top drawer of the desk, I've left three envelopes for you," said the old administrator.  "When things get bad, open the first envelope and follow the instructions."
